THE OSCARS 2023: THE WINNERS, LADY GAGA AND FASHION STANDOUTS

Published

on

The 95th Academy Awards were nothing short of spectacular, with the iconic red carpet being given a revamp to a “champagne” colour, adding a touch of elegance to the proceedings. But the night was filled with much more than just a new carpet colour. Here are the Oscar 2023 highlights.

FASHION HIGHLIGHTS

Fashion was on full display at the Oscars, with Stephanie Hsu and Florence Pugh showcasing Valentino designs, while Rihanna stunned in a sheer black dress by Tunisian couturier Alaia. Cara Delevingne turned heads in a stunning burgundy dress by Lebanese designer Elie Saab, and Chinese actress Fan Bingbing wore a breathtaking gown by Italian-Lebanese designer Tony Ward.

WINNERS

The night belonged to Everything Everywhere All At Once, which swept the acting awards, with Ke Huy Quan winning Best Supporting Actor, Jamie Lee Curtis winning Best Supporting Actress, and Michelle Yeoh making history as the first Asian woman to win Best Actress. Brendan Fraser also won Best Actor for his role in The Whale, making him the only “big six” category winner who did not win for Everything Everywhere. All Quiet on the Western Front also had an impressive night, ending with four overall victories.

LADY GAGA’S STRIPPED BACK PERFORMANCE

Lady Gaga delivered a powerful, stripped-back performance of her Oscar-nominated song Hold My Hand from the Top Gun: Maverick album, showcasing her vocal prowess in a much more relaxed outfit than what we’re used to seeing her in. The singer gave a brief introduction to the song, stating that it was “extremely personal” to her, and that “we all need a lot of love to walk through this life.”

All in all, the 95th Academy Awards were a night to remember, filled with glamour, history-making wins,

and unforgettable performances.

THE ”FADE SALT” ADIDAS YEEZY 700 V3

YEEZY are becoming more creative with their signature colour-ways as we take a look at the 700 V3 ‘Fade Salt’. This release will be a welcome expansion of Ye’s empire since the “Fade” and “Salt” aesthetics are neither new to this particular model.

This new colorway’s upper portion follows a grayscale pattern. The inner liners and tongues are finished in a muted grey colour, in contrast to the futuristic moulds that attach to the side panels, which are meant to have a milky translucent look.

The upper’s recognisable streaky lines from the silhouette are printed throughout and are given a gradient look by beginning solid black toward the toes and switching to crisp white from the mid-foot to the back. The bottoms have creamy exteriors, beige chevron tractions, and orange accents interspersed throughout the treading.

Although a release date has not yet been announced, it is probable that adidas and other retailers will offer these in the coming months for the customary $200 USD.

Could it be? Abel Tesfaye took to his Instagram account to post two snippets of audio and tagged Swedish House Mafia. The dance band broke hearts of millions when they split back in November 2013 so there’s no surprise around the hype of this teaser.

The short clips feature the lyrics: “Like a moth to a flame,” before a message flashes up saying “to be continued”.

You can view the posts below.

This comes shortly after The Weekend revealed the artists who have inspired his next album which is due for release at the end of this month.

“[W]e’re just kind of figuring out when to put it out. It’s been really cool, because I’m working on this album this summer simultaneously with the writer’s room for the new TV show,” added Tesfaye.

WORLD’S FIRST METAVERSE FASHION WEEK: WHAT TO EXPECT

Published

By

Fashion week is shifting into the virtual world as luxury brands and designers are preparing for the first ever Metaverse Fashion Week in Decentraland, which kicks off March 23 2022. As the event lasts four days, we share 4 things not to miss at the Metaverse Fashion Week (MVFW):

  1. FASHION SHOWS

Of course, what is a Fashion Week without the fashion shows?

Over 50 brands will enter the virtual world, to debut collections in the Decentraland’s latest 3D Luxury Fashion District, previously modelled on Paris’ vaunted Avenue Montaigne. The event is actually inspired by the French architecture, underpinning the overall look and feel on the runway.

The brands to showcase their designs include the likes of Dolce & Gabbana, Hugo, and Roberto Cavalli. Tommy Hilfiger will not only reveal its SS22 collection, but also NFTs within its Decentraland store. Etro, on the other hand, will set a gender-fluid scene by offering its new Liquid Paisley print.

It only makes sense for digital-first brands, The Fabricant and CSM’s Scarlett Yang to make their presence known whilst also paving a way for emerging designers, like LVMH-winner Kidsuper, on their crypto-clothing debut.

2. SHOPPING

To treat yourself and get your hands on any wearable items, an Ethereum wallet will be needed to purchase as Decentraland, the browser-based platform has software running on the Ethereum blockchain.

To begin the 2022 Metaverse Fashion Week, Selfridges will complete the activation whilst we observe the launch of its first Web3 store. There will also be an “immersive” experience with Paco Rabanne. To enhance the beauty of fashion, “sensorial” experiences from Etro, Tommy Hilfiger, Dolce & Gabbana, and Guo Pei will feature too.

NFT marketplace Rarible will be sponsoring Decentraland’s Designers Street, hosting spaces for emerging streetwear designers and driving exclusive apparel drops too.

3. ENTERTAINMENT – FILMS, CONCERTS & EXHIBITIONS

As part of an AUROBOROS experience, attendees can enjoy a headline performance by Grimes. There is also the opportunity to listen into panel discussions with high value industry-leaders like Alexandre de Betak.

The CashLabs Space will show fashion-based films including Chanel and Lanvin. NFT photographs from STREET (the legendary street style photography magazine) comes courtesy of MetaTokyo in museums.

4. ATTEND PARTIES

Similar to a typical fashion week, after-show parties at MVFW will be hosted by Dolce & Gabbana, Faith Connexion, Blond:ish, and Imitation of Christ. We also know KnownOrigin will showcase its collection sometime during an afterparty. There could be a few more surprises on the horizon…you have to be there not to miss out on the fun.
