SONY INVESTING BIGGER INTO ESPORTS

Sony has now bought esports tournament platform Repeat.gg in order to create more opportunities for people to participate in competitive gaming whilst increasing PlayStation’s presence in this gaming sector. Games like Fortnite, League of Legends, and Call of Duty: Warzone have featured in more than 100,000 tournaments held by Repeat.gg with over 2.3 million participants.
This news comes only days after a recent string of deals. Last week, Bungie, the company behind the Destiny video game, and Jade Raymond’s Haven Studios were both formally acquired by Sony.

Repeat.gg will continue to offer PC, mobile, and other platforms “alongside PlayStation” as a result of the acquisition, which will also provide it access to “additional resources, game titles, and technology.”
Steven Roberts from Sony Interactive Entertainment has explained how, the aim is to increase the breadth of our esports services together with the Repeat.gg team. “This is just the start of our journey and we look forward to sharing more updates with our community in the future.”

Whilst tournaments are already ran on PlayStation’s Tournaments platform, Sony are undoubtedly searching for additional venues to conduct player competitions with this significant investment in live service games.
