KENDRICK’S USES DEEPFAKES IN NEW MUSIC VIDEO TO MORPH INTO WILL SMITH, KANYE AND MORE
It’s been four long years since we’ve heard new music from Kendrick Lamar. He’s now back with his upcoming fifth studio album. But Kendrick has also released an accompanying music video for new song, “The Heart Part 5”, which uses deepfake technology to visually transform his face into notable cultural figures including Ye and Nipsey Hussle – it’s worth a watch.
The track, which samples Marvin Gaye’s 1976 song I Want You, begins with dark ruby red backdrop behind Lamar. The video features deepfake technology — a form of artificial intelligence (AI) — is used to morph K-dot into famous figures – OJ Simpson, Kanye West, Jussie Smollett, Will Smith, Kobe Bryant, and Nipsey Hussle.
The term Deepfake does generally refer to videos where the face of a person, usually a public figure, has been manipulated using AI software in a way that makes the altered video look authentic. For the Lamar video, Studio Deep Voodoo — led by “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone – were the brains behind creating the deepfake.
A semi-announcement for Lamar’s fifth studio album was teased last year, but now we know the album, titled Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers will finally land on May 13.

The soles of the trainers are an outcome of the Plant Cork Pack, a process that infused the cork into the rubber sole. This product release marks Nike’s air to become ‘zero carbon and zero waste’.
The collection includes both new and updated trainer designs; you can purchase the beloved Air Force 1 or Blazer Mild and Air Max alongside a new silhouette, Nike Crate Impact. Their Air VaporMax 2021 is one of their ‘most sustainable shoes to date’ as it’s produced by over 50% recycled resources.

The capsule is inspired by ‘the natural world’ but it isn’t just the sole’s that are eco-friendly, ‘Each shoe is dedicated to a plant we love and brought to life through embroidered botanical designs, scientific infographics and dye sourced from the plant itself.’ Dohnn Ball, on the Plant Cork Pack team, revealed further the inspiration behind the trainer designs, saying, ‘On each shoe we are highlighting a plant, and whatever colour that plant is processed into is the accent colour on that shoe”.
