COLDPLAY 2022: LIVE IN WEMBLEY LONDON

Published

on

Coldplay have now performed three of six sold-out concerts on the band’s World Tour with an emphasis throughout on inclusivity and sustainability. Alongside songs from the band’s most recent album, ‘Music Of The Spheres’, the classics floated and cascaded with heartfelt emotion at Wembley Stadium this week.

The first of Coldplay’s homecoming performances was a frenzy of upbeat soft-rock, serving as a reminder of how far the group has gone from its earlier days. Focusing on sustainability, the energy generated by these fixtures is used to power a portion of the show the following night. During the pre-show, a message flashes up inviting fans to use the kinetic dancefloors (circles that patrons can jump on to create energy) and power bikes. They play House of Pain’s “Jump Around” loudly through the speakers at one point to encourage partygoers on the dance floors to jump.

Videos appear that highlight the environmental causes that ticket sales benefit, explain how the band has committed to reducing emissions on this tour by 50% compared to their previous one, and describe how they employ renewable resources.

This collaboration with Craig David followed the Coldplay’s previous two Wembley performances. Tonight, however, we’re joined by Australian pop phenom Natalie Imbruglia and virtuoso performer Jacob Collier, first for a heartfelt rendition of “Torn” (helped by a full audience sing-along), and then for a cover of “Summer Nights” from the film Grease, in memory of the late Olivia Newton-John. It is a charming, though unanticipated, tribute to the icon.

There are still three more Wembley dates at the 90,000-person stadium. The planned industrial action on the London Underground train network has forced a change in the date of the August 19 performance to August 21. At Wembley, Coldplay will be supported by H.E.R. and London Grammar.

LISTEN: DRAKE SURPRISES WITH SEVENTH NEW ALBUM DROP

Drake’s shock follow-up album to ‘Certified Lover Boy’, titled ‘HONESTLY, NEVERMIND’ has been released (Jun 17). The 14-track set, dedicated to the late Virgil Abloh, is a blend of dance and house music, set to keep us dancing all summer long.

Drake has stunned fans by announcing this album less than 12 hours before release. It is lasting around 50 minutes, features a single guest appearance from 21 Savage on the closing track “Jimmy Cook’s,” as well as production work from the likes of Tay Keith, Gordo, Noah “40” Shebib, and Black Coffee, to name a few, with the latter two also serving as executive producers alongside Drizzy, Oliver El-Khatib, and Noel Cadastre.

However, the album also included a special dedication to late fashion icon Virgil Abloh, who died last November. Drake’s dedication was tucked neatly at the top of the Apple Music page, along with the lyrics to the title track. “DEDICATED TO OUR BROTHER V,” he wrote at the end.

HONESTLY, NEVERMIND follows the GRAMMY-nominated Certified Lover Boy, which featured a Damien Hirst-designed album cover depicting 12 pregnant women emojis. The album, featuring Lil Baby, Lil Durk, Giveon, Jay-Z, Travis Scott, Future, Young Thug, Yebba, 21 Savage, Project Pat, Tems, Ty Dolla Sign, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, and Kid Cudi, debuted at No. 1 and set the record for the biggest opening week of a 2021 album.

Meanwhile, Drake will most likely discuss the album during tonight’s premiere episode of his SiriusXM radio show Table For One, which he promoted on Instagram prior to the album’s announcement – if you want to learn more about the project’s backstory.

Download and listen to HONESTLY, NEVERMIND – available on Spotify and Apple Music now.
