Former Arsenal and England player will be the first ever English-speaking female commentator for the game.

Over the past few years gaming studios have taken steps to promote inclusivity, by promoting diversity and creating strong female characters. This has resulted in a sharp rise in women joining the gaming world, with FIFA being one such game.

Having launched in 1993, the franchise have improved dramatically year by year, however it took the developers almost 28 years to introduce the series’ first ever English-speaking female commentator.

The franchise’s latest title will introduce former Arsenal and England star Alex Scott as the goal commentator. She will replace long time goal commentator in former Scottish footballer Alan McInally. FIFA 21 introduced the franchise’s first ever female commentator with the addition of Nira Juanra in the Spanish commentary team.

Following the announcement, Alex Scott took to Twitter to express her excitement in joining the iconic football franchise. She played as a Right Back for celebrated London club, Arsenal in the FA WSL. Additionally, she also has 140 appearances for the England National Team, and two years ago, she was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame. Following her retirement, she began her punditry career, and she has worked at BBC Sport and Sky Sports. During this time, she has covered tournaments like the FIFA World Cup 2018 and the English Premier League as well.

In other FIFA news, rumour has it that FIFA 23 will be free-to-play and cross-platform. While FIFA 22 will still be sold as a full-priced game when it launches later this year, an alleged insider has claimed that FIFA 23 will be taking a vastly different approach.

For now, let’s just look forward to FIFA 22, which launches October 1.

If you ever find yourself in Tokyo on your travels, it’s worth exploring the new official Harry Potter Café, which is to help commemorate the franchise’s success in Japan, especially for fans of the iconic movie series.

The Akasaka Biz Tower, where the café is located, is currently embodying other elements of the Wizarding World, such as a staircase that has been converted to resemble the moving staircase in the franchise. Notably, the staircase connects the tower to the Akasaka ACT Theater, where the play will be performed in Japanese.

So whilst the cafe provides fans with souvenirs and Hogwarts-themed decor, we take a look at the food and drinks on offer:

First, the café offers scones with jams in the shapes of Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff, keeping with its British heritage. The traditional dinner of beans and toast has a Harry Potter twist; it’s called Platform 934 Beans. The Dragon’s Breath Roast Beef and the Owl Post Sunday Roast are some of the heartier snacks.

There is also meat-free Hedwig Cake, which is a dessert. The artistic dish depicts an owl with its beak clutching a Hogwarts acceptance letter.

There are also other potions available. Spells like “Expecto Patronum,” “Wingardium Leviosa,” “Stupify,” and “Herbivicus” are channelled into a variety of cocktails and mocktails, all boiling away beneath the surface to captivate your taste buds.

The magical café is a part of Warner Bros. Entertainment’s spectacular celebration of the July 8th launch of the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in Japan. In the meantime, the cafe is open as a soft launch. You can find out more via the site.
